Reclassified to Class 'C'

The Law
Even though cannabis has been re-categorised in the United Kingdom as a Class C drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act, the drug will still remain illegal and it will continue to be an offence to be in possession. In most cases the drug will be confiscated by the police and a warning given.

The British government intends to bring forward legislation to increase the maximum penalty for supplying and dealing in Class B and C drugs from 5 years to 14 years imprisonment. There is also likely to be a new offence of "aggravated possession", which will allow people to be arrested for blatant public use of the drug: "Most offences of cannabis possession would likely result in a warning and confiscation of the drug — unless there are aggravating factors, such as smoking in a public place or repeat offending, which may lead to arrest and prosecution.

Supply and Possession
Supply of cannabis remains a criminal offence, and those who sell it to others risk severe penalties. It is also an offence for managers of premises to allow smoking or supply of cannabis on their premises.

Cultivation
Growing cannabis remains a criminal offence. But given that at least 16 million people have had a blow in the UK, many of whom grow it quietly, a few plants here and there, in greenhouses or the airing cupboard or their loft, we wonder how long it will be before - if not permitted - cultivation of a few plants will be tolerated. As stated elsewhere, we do not condone hard drugs, just commonsense.
